Product Overview & Application

The Atmos GS 40 wood gasification boiler is a manually fed hot water heating boiler designed for burning split logs and is intended for heating single-family homes and similar properties. With a nominal output of 40 kW, this model is aimed at applications with higher heat demand where a classic log wood boiler with wood gasification technology, a large fuel chamber, and clear, robust engineering is required.

Technology & Features

The boiler operates on the principle of downdraft gasification with an induced draft fan. The combustion air is preheated before being introduced into the combustion chamber, the secondary combustion chamber is equipped with ceramic components, and the boiler has an integrated cooling coil for overheat protection. Features include a thermometer, flue gas thermostat, boiler thermostat for the fan, and mechanical operation of the start-up damper.

For practical operation, the Atmos GS 40 offers a large fuel shaft for logs up to 530 mm in length. This supports longer burn intervals and reduces the frequency of refueling compared to smaller units. The induced draft fan contributes to more even combustion, while the clear electromechanical control logic makes the boiler appealing to users who prefer robust and straightforward technology.

System Integration & Compatibility

The boiler is designed for integration into water-based heating systems. According to the documentation, installation with a buffer tank is mandatory; for the GS 40, the technical specifications state a minimum volume of 750 liters. When used with buffer tanks, benefits include more economical operation, lower fuel consumption, and compatibility with radiators and underfloor heating. For return temperature protection, integration via a Laddomat 22 or a suitable thermostatic control valve is recommended.

Installation

Installation must be carried out in a suitable boiler or heating room with a guaranteed supply of combustion air; installation in living spaces is not permitted. A concrete or metal foundation is recommended. The electrical connection must be hardwired at 230 V / 50 Hz, not via a Schuko plug. The chimney, flue gas pipe, and hydraulic connection must be compatible with the system and professionally executed.

Notes

The boiler is designed for dry split or chopped wood with a residual moisture content of approximately 12 to 20%; the documentation recommends wood that has been stored for at least two years. The prescribed minimum return temperature is 65 °C. During normal operation, the flue gas temperature should not fall below 110 °C. The documentation also explicitly emphasizes the need for professional commissioning and user instruction.
